M&A and Corporate consolidation: A Study of the Role of Competitive Government Behavior is the final research achievement of The National Social Science Fund of China led by Professor Fengrong Wang. This book was respectively selected into National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences in 2016 and the Chinese Academic Translation Project of the NSSFC in 2018. Recently, the English version of the book has been published by Palgrave Macmillion, a famous international academic publishing group.
This book creatively constructs the theoretical model and analytical framework on the role of local government competition in industrial consolidation of M&As, and reveals the mechanism and effect of government intervention in M&As on the evolution of industrial economy and regional economy. This book follows the logical main line of "the existence of the M&As wave——the mechanism of M&As under government competition——the process of M&As under government competition——the micro and macro performance of M&As", and it analyzes the mechanism of M&As and the effect on the evolution of industrial and regional economic structure on the role of government competition from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. Taking "government competition motivation——government competition behavior——government competition effect" as the hidden line, this book considers the transition path and mechanism of government competition.
The contribution and value of this achievement lies in re-examining the essence of industrial consolidation of M&As in the transition period from the perspective of local government competition, which enriches and deepens the research proposition of "transitional economy" theory and "Chinese economics".The core ideas of the book have been published in authoritative and important journals such as Economic Research Journal, Journal of Financial Research, Economic Perspectives and Economic Management, which have important academic and practical value.
